Village of Ottawa Hills
General Overview Ottawa Hills is an upscale enclave of 5,000 people, completely surrounded by the city of Toledo. It is a close-knit community of beautiful homes with charming gardens, lots of open space and an excellent school system. Ottawa Hills's cost of living is 17.92% lower than the U.S. average. History The Village of Ottawa Hills was established in 1915 when John North Willys, president of the Overland Company, acquired approximately 1,200 acres in the area. Since that time, several annexations have changed the shape of the original Village. However, much of the early development of the Village is very consistent with the original plans that date back to 1915. Government Services The village is run by a mayor, six members of the village council, and a clerk-treasurer, all elected at large for four-year terms by residents of the community. The Village of Ottawa Hills has a fire department consisting of the fire chief and nine part-time firefighters. All firefighters are also certified EMTs. In addition, the fire department has seven paramedics. The police department comprises 15 full-time employees and an 11 part-time employees. Tax Rates Median real estate property taxes paid for housing units in 2000: 1.7% ($4,375) Employment The majority of residents in Ottawa Hills work in the following fields: professional, scientific and technical services, education, health care, finance and insurance, construction and public administration. Among the area's largest employers are Andersons DaimlerChrysler AG Dana Corporation General Motors Corp HCR Manor Care Libbey Inc. Medical College of Ohio Mercy Health Partners Owens Corning Owens-Illinois, Inc ProMedica Health Systems Toledo City Board of Education United Parcel Service Inc University of Toledo Recreation Ottawa Hills has its own recreation center. Residents also take advantage of the many parks and recreational facilities in the city of Toledo.
