General Overview
Monclova Township is one of the eleven townships of Lucas County, Ohio.
Monclova is an unincorporated community in central Monclova Township. The Township of Monclova lies partly upon the Maumee River at the head of the rapids. The town has 6,700 residents. Monclova Township's cost of living is 7.18% lower than the U.S. average.
History
French explorers built a stockade and established a trading post at the Maumee rapids in the late 1600s. The area was subsequently settled by both the French and British.
The citizens of Monclova petitioned the County Commissioners in March 7, 1853, to become a separate entity from the Township of Waynesfield and established Monclova Township. The first meeting for the election of' Township officers was held in April, 1853.
Government Services
Monclova Township is an unincorporated township that works closely with Lucas County. The township has four elected officials: three trustees that handle governing issues and a clerk, who is responsible for record-keeping and financial matters.
The Township's Fire Department provides many services to the community including Fire Prevention & Suppression; Emergency Medical Services; Heavy Rescue; Water Rescue and Hazardous Materials Spill Response. There are 40 paid per call volunteers, 10 part time firefighter EMTs and a full time fire chief.
The Lucas County Sheriff's Department provides police services for Monclova Township.
